On the verge of dipping our big
toe into Week 4 of the NFL season, we have one meager request of the
nation's TV networks: COULD YOU PLEASE STOP SHOWING US SHOTS OF KURT
WARNER'S WIFE IN THE STANDS EVERY 30 SECONDS? She seems like a
lovely woman. It's obvious she loves her husband. But really, the
woman and her spiky little coif get more airtime than a Deion
Sanders' do-rag. Thank you. We'll take our medication now. There.
All better. On that note, here are some Web sites worthy of your
attention.
MEDAL TALLY
www.medaltally.com
Too busy tracking the shuttlecocks flying around the badminton
competition to stop and calculate how much precious metal your
country is hauling away from the Sydney Games? This site keeps track
and also gauges success relative to each country's population.
LONGSNAP
www.longsnap.com
There are sports fans, and then there are sports fans who
appreciate every subtle nuance. Like the folks at Longsnap, who
elevate the act of hiking a football long distance into some sort of
existential act. Maintained by attorney and sports agent Kevin Gold
of Harrisburg, Pa., the site seeks to become the premiere source for
long snapping information. And the only source, we hope.
OFFICIAL'S ROOM
www.refs.go.to
Why was inline hockey invented? Because kids in Florida and
California were jealous of Canadian kids without front teeth. To
keep those players in line — so to say — this site provides both
inline and ice hockey officials around the world with resources to
enhance their careers. We dug the hyperactive graphic of the
official at this site's front door page.
BOOK 4 GOLF
www.book4golf.com
In transit somewhere and want to reserve a tee time? This service
offers access to more than 900 courses in the U.S. Those who are
Nextel subscribers can make reservations with Book4Golf on their
wireless Internet service.
BALLPARKS
www.ballparks.com
This site has been one of our favorite bookmarks for years. You
can find every park ever built, every park now in existence and
every one in the planning stages — as well as detailed information
on the venue, pictures and meticulous histories. The main site also
features arenas and parks for football, hockey and basketball.
