Negotiation of the Player Contract

Clients need the skills of an experienced negotiator to assist them in dealing with team management concerning their player contract. My knowledge of the intricacies of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the economics of player salaries allows me to provide clients with a negotiated contract that can address both short and long-term financial goals. Further, I am a licensed attorney and my legal skills can be of assistance in addressing other contractual or legal issues which may arise.

To assist in my negotiations, as a National Football League Players Association Certified Contract Advisor, I have access to salary information for all NFL players and the NFLPA research staff at my disposal as client needs require.

 

Counseling

Obtaining a player contract is only the first step in the range of representation services. Because effective representation is an ongoing process, I assist clients in disputes that may arise concerning player or team conduct. This includes acting as a mediator between the player and management during the term of a contract. In addition, I provide arbitration and, where necessary, litigation services for resolving more serious disputes. For undrafted players, or for those players with contracts that have expired or been terminated, I assist clients in securing employment with a team with needs that best match the player's particular skills and abilities.

 

Financial Management and Planning

I have assembled a "team" of tax and financial experts to assist in the representation of my clients for advanced financial management and planning needs. Although I can provide a preliminary review and analysis of any financial proposals which are either suggested by or presented to the athlete, I utilize outside consultants and specialists for handling the more complex issues that may arise.

 

Personal Training

In cooperation with Bob Forrey of Mid State Sports Center and other industry professionals, clients can participate in individualized workout programs with an experienced strength and conditioning sports trainer. As part of the training regiment, players have a personalized nutritional plan and diet established to assist in the player's unique strength and conditioning program.

 

Marketing

In addition to income from the player contract, clients can benefit from marketing their personality and celebrity through endorsement opportunities, commercials and personal appearances. I pursue all of these avenues of additional income for clients and negotiate the applicable contracts and fees. Among the marketing activities that may be of interest to clients are product endorsements, clinics, television appearances and speaking engagements. Special attention is also paid to the player's hometown, college town and playing city to develop involvement in the community and with local charitable events and organizations.

 

Career Planning

Given the often short career span of a professional football player, emphasis is placed on a player's career beyond the playing field. In conjunction with the National Football League Players Association and NFL teams, I assist clients in their efforts to ensure that the transition from a playing career is a smooth one.
